Nordic Salmon is owned by Mato Invest, a Norwegian investment company also involved in sales of amongst other salmon and vending machines (ATMs) for fish in Singapore.

While food is essential for health, the way our food is produced places strain on natural resources such as land and water. Attempting to balance feeding a larger population in the world, while ensuring minimal environmental impacts, will be a pressing issue facing the sustainability of our food systems globally.

We notice that there are many conscious consumers and great demand for healthy and sustainable food with low environmental impact. This sustainable mindset is a match to Nordic Salmons philosophy and vision for a “green and clean” farmed fish. Our aim is to deliver sustainable premium farmed trout and salmon from the plant in Bjuv to Sweden and EU within the next coming years.

The land-based fish farm will be set in Bjuv and based on a circular economy aimed at eliminating waste and the continual re-use of resources. The reason why Bjuv was chosen, was first its proximity to the rest of Europe, and the well-organized conditions in Bjuv municipality and especially the good collaboration with Wrams Gunnarstorps Manor and others.

The plant has been designed to produce 10,000 tonnes of trout and salmon per year. The fish will be cultivated indoors in a large cultivation hall, and as water is a limited resource, our site will be operating the most efficient water recycling technology. In order to maximize the principle of circular bioeconomic, water will be cleaned, recycled and returned to the pools. The separated water will be discharged, and sludge water will be fed to Eon’s biogas and water with nutrients used for local irrigation on agricultural land.

This is a modern processing industry that will emit a minimum of odours and noise – in fact, the fish are easily stressed by loud noises. The plant will have major ripple effects for local companies and is estimated to need between 50-80 employees. The plant is a high-tech fish farm based on the RAS technology and will also need technological special expertise and will work closely with the research environment, colleges and universities.
